Hello Everyone,
It was fortunate/lucky for me to have found this group. I have paid attention to my health and indeed I do excercise fairly hard. Whlie they certainly help -- without that my health condition would have been much worse -- it was a bit hard to be constant. I tend to go from one extreme to the other (good <--> bad). When I am making a consicios effort, I feel I can continue myself. But when something happens, for example strong appetie or stress, they can easily break and I tend to fall into a bad diet. On top of that, I have been smoking and drinking. I am from Japan, where the cigarettes are much lighter than here in U.S. I admit I got used to a stronger ones... which is not good. I think I have found something I can stick with to regain my health.
I am a software engineer in a computer industry, and am 38 years old, single.
I know from my experience that human being actually does not eat that much, no matter how hard you work or play sports. When I was a high school student (16-18 years old in Japan), I used to play soccer. When the traninig was the hardest in the mid summer, I often did "fasting" for more than a couple of days,
sometimes for a week. I accidentally found that my body works much better if I do not eat. But I can no longer do that. I do not think it is because of the age. It is simply because my health condition has deteriorated.
Bad habits, which are always hard to get rid of, I admit, had began when I entered college. I started to live alone and eat outside. Everything tastes so well. I kept eating until I reached 200 lb, yes 200 lb. I am just 5 feet 7 inch tall. I had always felt tired at that time. Since then I tried to reduce weight. Sometime it worked, but often I regained weight. After many efforts and bitter experience, I now weigh around 125 lb, which is close to my ideal weight (120lb) -- my bone is not thick, so 120lb is fine. Still I am sure I am far from the best health condition. Sometimes I have a strong desire to eat a lot, and I often do so. And I continue to smoke. While I do not have an obvious symptom, I am sure I can be much, much, and much healthier.
The articles in the HPS web explain a lot that I agree and can understand; Bad health mostly comes from bad habits, so true, I believe. The reason of bad feeling in fasting is detoxification process where the blood tube is filled with toxin -- this explains why I feel so tired when I try fasting now. I did not at all when I was young when I probably did not have much toxin in my body. And last but not least, when the student is ready, the teacher shows up.
I intend to fundamentally re-structure my body, mind, and life throughout this program. I know I do not have a very strong will. But I sensed this might be the last chance and will be making my best effort to accomplish what I want for the rest of my life.
