"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society."
-J. Krishnamurti

I think the above quote pretty much summarizes why i'm here. I don't intend to mock the very society that i live in, but there is no doubt in my mind that in our pursuit of instant gratification in most walks of life the biggest price we pay is our health.

About myself - I am a civil engineer by profession and currently living in Texas, though i'm originally from India. Having been brought up in a moderately healthy way by parents back in India, i was left to my own devices when i moved here a few years ago to study, and slipped into the convenient but vicious cycle of fast food and cure-all capsules. And though i don't have any major health problems as such besides the odd constipation, acne, and low energy levels, i have been having the morbid feeling deep within that if i don't take the effort to understanding my body and effects of everything i put into it, it will come to haunt me at a later date. Discovering HPS online only confirmed those fears, and i am glad to have found the collective experience and wisdom of Jos-hua and all of you.

Other interests - Books (P.G. Wodehouse, Tom Robbins are among my favorite), Music (Psychedelic Trance, Reggae, Indian Classical, World), Travel (international, as much as i can afford), Outdoors.

Oh, and before i forget, hello everyone :). I hope to join in the cleanses of as many people as i can, but i have to admit i am a little shy by nature, so if i don't pop up in your thread to say something, it's usually because i'm waiting for the right words and time. But i understand the unique nature of the HPS way of cleansing, so i'm going to make the effort to be an active part of this fantastic community. I haven't confirmed my cleansing schedule, but it's going to happen anytime now, so see ya'll around soon.

Welcome to HPS, Valmiki. With a sagely name like that you have a lot to live up to! ;)

Nice quote. That seems to be what governs my relative’s definition of health.

Great that you are starting this BEFORE you get major health problems. I wish I could get my 29 year old son and his wife to see what you do!

Regarding Indian classical music, you must me mourning the passing of M.S. Subbulakshmi this past week - a great loss, indeed.

Valmiki,

Great quote to start of your introduction. I live in California and that particular quote strikes home.

Glad you've chosen to join HPS before you had any major medical problems! Like Jos-hua says "self-care is health-care"

Best Wishes,
Michael

Hi Valmiki,

Good to see you here. I agree, it's always better to prevent a problem than cure it. Keep your eyes open and you will learn much here, guaranteed.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Janaka, i was surprised with your observations about indian culture, but then your profile explained everything. Btw, mendocino is indeed a beautiful place to be, i happened to camp in the national forests nearby a couple of years ago.

(On a related note, the website doesn't allow me to access the control panel to setup/edit my public profile. Wondering if i should bug Joshua about it).

Yes, bug Joshua, seems like we should be able to edit it. I had him make changes for me in the past.

Welcome to HPS cleansing Valmiki!

Seems to me like "constipation, acne, and low energy levels" are serious health problems already.. they govern your life daily.

I'm cofident that HPS cleansing will serve you well. Please follow the program to the dot and all will be good.

Simple and easy.

BTW, do you know Saurabh and Sumina, they too live in Texas and are of Indian continent.

I too have a lot of Indian classical and world music... thinking one day, in this lifetime to spend 6 months to a year in Benares and studying Sitar. :-)

Peace, love and light, jos-hua

P.S. re edit profile, seems like some bug in the vb software, so just let me know privately what you want edited and I will do it for you.

Hello and thanks for the encouragement, everyone.

Jos-hua, i don't know Saurabh and Sumina personally, but i did contact Saurabh initially to learn more about his cleansing experience, since we seemed to have a lot of things in common (he is even the same age).

He was a huge help in making the decision to commit to HPS.

I have not started my level 1 yet, but i just signed up for Levels 2, 3 and 4, this program seems to make more sense with each passing day.

And yes, I plan to follow all the instructions to the dot.

Benares sounds like a great plan :), the sitar has such a moving sound, probably the best stringed instrument in my opinion. Percussion is also my personal favorite, i feel a strangely strong connection to African drums and music (maybe from a past life!!).

Peace.

Hi Valmiki,

Very nice introduction and it is great that you have committed to taking control of your health. I would agree that taking the proper measures now will alleviate problems down the road that you will never have to know about. Good luck with everything and thanks for posting on my intro.

Welcome, I agree that its great that you are starting at such a young age. I agree with instant gratification mentality. Its nice to enjoy the simplicity of doing something like boiling water for tea, steeping and enjoying the ritual of the process.

This path will help you find a pace that will help your life make sense in so many ways. Good luck and I will enjoy following your progress.

Greetings Valmiki!

It seems we have a lot in common--ok, maybe a bit early to say a lot, but at least a civil engineering degree and a bad habit involving fast-food!

Luckily, we're both about to change that! I look forward to cheering you on as you start your cleansing! I have no doubt big changes will come in your life soon. Afterall, "Everything's bigger in Texas!"

Cheers!
