Hello HPS Cleansers,

My name is Courtney and I am 24 years old and I am from the wonderful state of Maryland. I was born and raised here, but moved away for the last six years to attend college and graduate school. I have recently moved back (with all of my health issues) and I have decided that it is now time for me to take the time to heal ... me :).

A little about me. I was a competitive gymnast for almost 13 years. I earned a schoalrship to a NCAA division 1 school and competed all four years. During my time as a gymnast, I had many issues with menstrual irregularity and sickness, excessive water retention (thanks to Birth Control Pills) and lack of sleep due to stress.

I was 12 when I began menstration and I had 2 periods a month, every other week for almost nine days each. The flows were TERRIBLE. When I was 15, I was placed on the pill and have been on them ever since. I have NO body fat practically, well actually in the last few months I have gained some.. with some hard cellulite to go with it, which means my body is completely toxifide beyond belief. So one goal of my cleanse is to go off the pills and to achieve a somewhat normal, pain free cycle - okay I will settle for a decrease in the pain, not a complete elimination.

Okay back to gymnastics, because I was working with coaches who had no idea how to work with an athlete who gains muscle easily, a figure and talent, I had many trying to put me on diets, many that over extered my muscles and of course caused inflamation in them. From time to time I still suffer from the inflamation.

Due to my relative large amount of muscle (I am 5'3 and 135 lbs at the height of gymnastics I was almost 140) I craved red meat, A LOT. Since I have lost muscle and have decreased my work out from 25 hours a week to about 10, that has gone down as well. But I do not eat dinner, out of 13 years of not being able to. But not to worry, breakfast and lunch are okay.. not always nutirtional but at least I eat. As a result of stress and poor eating I suffer form irritable bowl syndrome. I hope to correct that too with my cleanse.

So my family, I guess the only reason why I still eat and do not have anorexia is that my parents are die hard black southerners, who come from large families, that put salt and fat into every meal and eat huge pieces of meat for dinner. You gotta love it. My parents are 64, and are still kicking... with thier cholesterol, diabetes and of course you guessed it high blood pressue. My second gaol of my cleanse, not to be in their medical state when I turn 50. Trust me they were there. And for my two brothers. Like me they were athletes, both wrestlers. But are in unhealthy lifestyles in terms of drug use and being a work a holic with the other. So my family is an interesting combination of... unhealthy.

Moving right along....My job. I work for the federal governemt... assessing state Medicaid initiatives. And so that is just all I can say about my job. But its sedentary. Not what I am use to. I have too much energy and just cannot sit all day so I get up about every half our to 45 minutes and walk around. I am thinking about moving to another job outside of the government. One that is more in line with me physically... basically a lot of movement.

I still work out four days a week and I coach a gymnastics team fro 3 days 4.5 hours each day. So those are great ways to sub. for my lack of movement at my sedentary job.

Other health issues: in the last few years I have developed a series of rashes that have not been pleasant. They have been awful. I had wring worm that turned viral when I was 18. I found out I am allergic to wring worm so that is not good. But since then I have a persistant rash. I moved to ATL for gaduate school and well the water, the air and ehhh I was soooo sick. The rashes became worse and well as I am writing this I am itiching so it has not gotten any better. So I am just frustrated with that at the moment.

Finally, what would I like from my cleanse. In all honesty, I would like the ability to have control and autonomy with my health. I would like to be able to sleep at night, have nice bowel movemements and gain moderate body fat so that I can have a family one day. I just want to feel like I am 24, and not like I am an old lady (even though some of my joints are old thanks to gymnastics). I just want to feel physically and mentally balanced. Something I have not had since... well since I hit puberty.

Well that was a nice long post :). Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I look forward to communicating with all of you. For all of you who are curious, I will do my formal cleasne when I turn 25, so that will be June 11th. I figured, I never work on my birthday (since my dad, my necie and I are all born the same day) and it is a period of life celebration, why not celebrate it with a cleanse :). Again, thanks for reading this.

Till next time....

Hi Courtney,

I enjoyed your introduction, all though you have a lot of negative results from your gymnastics, you should be very proud to have gotten a scholarship and to compete at the levels you did.

And now you should be proud that you are starting this program and taking the steps to a healthy future.

Best of luck to you,
Diana

Hi Diana!

Thanks so much for your wonderful reply. It has taken some time for me to smile at my accomplishments due to the negative effects. But I am glad that I have found HPS and I am on my way to correcting those problems. Thanks for your wonderful note.

Dear Courtney! What great spirit!

You are recognizing where you *don't* want to go early in the game, even though it seems late late late to you right now. When you do turn 50 you'll have been practising your healthy self for half your life. And you'll be laughing at how you swapped the usual (feeling good at 24 and nearly destroyed at 50) for the unusual (feeling awful at 24 and full of health at 50)!

Learning to eat is going to be both a challenge and a pleasure. Maybe you could get a look-ahead on what's suggested for pre-cleanse and incorporate some of those suggestions now, since you have such a long wait until your formal. (Experienced cleansers, would this be breaking any rules?) I bet once you start eating more naturally you'll feel like a new woman.

I loved your family being "an interesting combination of... unhealthy", oh yeah. My parents! My dad virtually lived on milk and sugar, my mom fed us those well balanced USDA food pyramid meals (uh-oh!) but couldn't resist sweets herself and had her own secret stashes -- always struggling with weight. I moved out asap and became a vegetarian for a few years!

Sedentary jobs are absolutely horrible. I worked in "corporate America" for years, plotting and planning how to get out. I finally did, and worked in forestry and horticulture before ending up as an estate caretaker. Whew! I wish you every success in finding a way to get out of that chair!

And the consequences of those overachieving coaches... I have a friend who did the "child pro sport" like you, only her sport was ice skating. Her coaches managed to completely destroy her knees by the time we were 16... we were born a day apart, our moms were friends, so we knew each other from babyhood. Boy did she have a different childhood from mine... always being pushed and pulled and painted and prodded... youch. So I feel for you!

Your desire to be physically and mentally balanced is the first and biggest step to being that way... you are on the road, don't worry, you will get there. One step at a time as they say.

You've chosen a GREAT first step! Your rashes and so on will just dissolve as you go through your cleanses. I hope to see you all the way through level four and into Master Faster! I plan to be right there with you. I start my level 1 formal fast on 5 March so we can stroll down this road pretty much together.

You'll have time to thoroughly explore these forums, something I'm just getting to! I look forward to seeing you here and sharing the experience!

much love to you Courtney -

Hi Courtney,

Welcome to Hps. Enjoyed reading through your intro. You are right on the money when forseeing the inevitable result of poor health habits when you get over the age of 50. Blood pressure pills, cholesterol pills, blood thinners, arthritis pills, and on and on..... That is what happens to most folks but not to those who get on the cleansing path, stay on it, believe in the concepts as presented here in Jos-hua's great program and then practice them. Great that you followed your intuition and decided to come aboard. Will look forward to your progress!

HI Courtney,

Welcome to the group :) ! You are going to love this course. If you take the same dedication & determination toward your health as you do gymnastics, you'll be in great health in no time.

This course really is awesome! I wish I had found it at your age eventhough it wouldn't have done me anygood b/c I wasn't ready for it.

I enjoyed reading your intro. You have an interesting family, I'm sure you'll be a positive influence on them.

Looking forward to your formal cleanse posts.

Thanks for sharing all about you. The journey to balance is a lovely one indeed. You will find so much warmth and wisdom in this forum and it will be invaluable as you embark on this path. I have completed all 4 levels and Jos-hua and this program have completely changed my life. Just be patient with yourself and with the process. Things will move and change as they need to. Just to provide a little encouragement to you-I too suffered from terrible irregular menstrual cycles-yes 2xmonth just like you and that is now a thing of the past. The cycles are normal, healthy, and much less painful.

Wishing you the very best as you begin your precleanse.
Cheers, Tina A

Hi Kylea,

Thanks so much for the comments. Yes, I wonder if it would be a bad idea if I read the precleanse posts to get an idea. I am VERY tempted for I have now found myself in there organic food stores that I dreaded when I was in college and high school but feel drawn to. Do you mind if I contact you and ask you if your found out if reading that board is okay?

So you friend and I have much in common! My body is that of a 60 year old. My parents and I complain about the same aches and pains! Its sad. But humorus too. I will definately watch your progress down "detox lane" :). This will be fun. I will definately look forward to doing this with you.

Tootles!

Hi Martin,

I hope this winds up under your thread. This posting thing is still confusing for me. Yes, when I am 50, I would like to be able to function for my children and not have them function for me. That is why I am more than excited about this program. I look forward to communicating with you as we stroll along in this wonderful journey.

HI Jefferey,

Yes my family is "special". Lets hope I can influence them in some form. Being as though I am the youngest and they still ignore me may be a problem. But lets see... maybe the cleanse can "enlighten" new interactions with them.

Hi Courtney,

Welcome!!! This program is designed just for you, and you will be amazed at the results that will be forth coming. Follow the script to the dot and ask any questions that may arise. There is a wealth of information from everyone here and the willingness to help each other is unbelievable.

I see your formal is a ways off, but I would go ahead and review the food lists and start making changing to your eating habits. I know for myself this was a step in the positive direction and the results are almost immediate.

This will also give you time to study the netwonder series, receive all your products, locate a steam room and masseuse. Also get a good juicer and start juicing.

I'm looking forward to being part of your journey and joining with you on the path to vibrant health and happiness....

Love and Light,

Hi Courtney,

I've just been catching up on your intro thread. Such a life you've had up to this point - and you're still so young! I say this because I am, to say the least, NOT athletically inclined and so the athletic life has always been one I held up, not necessarily to aspire to, but I have admiration for people whose physical bodies were so well constructed that they could do those things!

But, just like with everything I guess, those bodies can be exploited and abused. I'm astounded to read of all the problems that this supposed healthy physical regimen could cause you! I had no idea - I mean I've heard about football players injuring themselves badly, but had no sympathy for them because they play such a brutal game . . . You have given me much food for thought . . .

I'm so happy for you that you found HPS. I too have battled with physical problems for many years, but you are so young I'm sure you'll notice huge improvements more rapidly than me. Yes, the sooner you can start reading up on healthy food combinations, get yourself a good juicer and start taking in those healthy, living enzymes, you're gonna transform girl! And as for your family, you probably won't have to say anything to them at all - they'll SEE for themselves how you are benefiting.

Welcome to the community. I look forward to watching your progress.

Cheers!

Hi Anna,

Thanks for your inspiration and I am glad to have provided you with some feedback as to injuries. Like you I have no sympathy for foootbally players because they play a brutal yet easy sport comapred to gymnastics, wrestling or other just physically and mentally damaging sports. But yes, they have their fare share of brutality so I cannot take that away from them.

If you do not read this, I will e-mail you about a juicer. I am young , newly employed so I can afford one but would need help in buying the RIGHT one. So I am going to e-mail you. :)

Can't wait to communicate with you!

Love,

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I chose to do my formal latter because I am still confused with the website and such. So I will and am definately using this time to understand what I am to do now and in the long run. I asked Kylea this as well, what type of juicer should I look for? Where should I look for it?

Not to sound dumb, but where do I look for the food combination lists? Is it on this website of in the recommmended reading (which I have started).

Again, thanks for your comments and I look forward to chatting with you in the future! :)

Always,

Courtney

Hi Courtney,

DR's book has everything about the right food combinations. Very informative about that and everything else pertaining to what we are learning here.

Also, here's a site to check out juicer and juicing. Personally I like the champion juicer. More juice per miles than some of the others out there. I feel they are reasonably priced and will last a lifetime. The site is at http://www.discountjuicers.com/bestjuicer.html

Hope this helps and that you are enjoying the info as it comes in for you...

Dear Courtney--thanks so very much for your post in my box. I understand about family not wanting to embrace what we are doing and I realize that it is all very "out there" and different. But we as a people have come to accept as normal, being overweight, having our breast removed, losing our hair with medication, feeling sick and tired all the time, with answers in a bottle. THAT IS NOT NORMAL!! And what we do is NOT radical. Try and remember that when you love yourself as you need to you will take extremely good care of yourself so that you can be of tremendous help to others in your life. I told my Mum, "I love you toooooo much not to be the best I can be for you in my health, my emotional state, my very being. TOO many kids are a burden to their elderly parents today - what a shame.

I want to share with you a "verse" that has meant alot to me over the last few years - hopefully for you too!! :):)

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkenss, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented
and fabulous?

Actually, who are you NOT to be???

You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is NOTHING enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it is in EVERYONE.

And when we let our own light SHINE, we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically
liberates others.

With much love and kindness,
Maz

A fellow gymnast, with the low body fat problem. Right back atchya, Courtney. :/

Of course I don't need it for having young'uns, but it's the same concept. One of the things I've discovered on HPS is that while a majority of the participants want to lose weight, there's a significant minority who are quite the opposite. In my first cleanse, I lost so much body fat that I looked emaciated and I was so cold I could barely function. The second time round I experienced a normal cooling of the body, but was healthy enough to stay functional. Some cleansers who have never experienced the former situation will find it hard to relate. So with little body fat, be prepared to keep yourself as warm and inactive as you can stand.

Hey, do you ever go to the Eastern Market in D.C.? Sometimes I pick up pig feet or oxtail, I'm going to look for chitterlings in the future too now that I know what they are. Good stuff. Maybe this classic Soul Food might make you think of your mom and pop, suffering from the blood pressure and diabetes, but there's plenty of nomadic people who have lived on mostly meat for lifetimes without ever developing chronic disease. Masai warriors, Eskimos, ancient Vikings, Argentinian cowboys, etc. To my mind there's a big honking difference between salami and pork chops from the local grocery, versus homemade braised meat in a gelatinous sauce.

Anyway, you'll experience a lot of different post-cleanse ideas once you get there. For now, stick to the program better than I did and I'm rooting for things to work out splendidly for ya.

And yes desk jobs are slow torture. :)

Hi Courtney,

I just read through your intro for the first time today. That is quite a story, and I'm sure many of us can relate to having unhealthy family members.

I look forward to hearing as you progress through the stages of cleansing. You have been on this forum longer than I have, but I'm about a month ahead as far as my first cleanse. It's nice to know there are others out there who are going through the process together with me.

Take care.

Hi Janaka, Belinda and the rest of the cleansing community:

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a great 25th birthday. Since my introduction time; not much has changed with me. I am still here... alive and somewhat well :) . I have been seeing a clinical herbalist since January and she is great oh and I stopped taking my birth control pills. Other than that nothing is new. I have been on reading posts of others or reading up on others experiences and researching more about healthy cleansing in general. I have already completed the required readings and have gone about chanigng my eating habbits... Which I have noticed great changes... such as unexpected weight loss!

To begin with your questions Janaka and Belinda - a while back when I was chatting with another cleanser, I was advised that hard core cleansing on a great day such as my brithday would not be a good idea (only because you should be able to eat for a festive occasion AND I am not the only person in my family born that day, the day after or the day before). So that would have brought about some issues just from the enjoyment standpoint and the fact that my mother already feels I have an eating disorder or sorts whcih she regularly accuses me of. Since I am so toxified inside I just do not have the stamina to fight her wonderfullly wrong imagination. So orignially I was suppose to start my precleanse June 10th (just so that I could eat), but then another issue arose.

I met with the herbalist the in May and let her know of my decision to cleanse. Her concern is that since I am very "inflamed" as she puts it, she dose not feel my organswould be strong enough. She knows one is not COMPLETELY healthy at cleansing time, but since I have had some serious rash outreaks, hot flashes and stopped birth control all at the same time, she feard my body needed more time to adjust to the newest abnormailities before I kick it back into shape.

Plus, she made it clear that she'd rather that if I were to cleanse now that I eat while I do it. She felt a week of fasting in my current organ state is not productive especially since her herbs are beginning to work really well. So she wanted me to wait until the end of the summer. Even in that statement she was a little nervous telling me that. It was written all over her face. So I will take that as a sign of... wait for a another month. She thinks physically (organ wise) I would be okay. But again she looked fearful when saying that. She said she was going to e-mail Jooshwa but I am not sure if she did or not. Now she has me on herbs to strengthen my liver, and we already did the gut.

So of course I rescheduled my cleanse for the July 4th holiday weekend BEFORE I spoke with the herbalist. (It had been several moths between appointments). So I will just change it to the end of August. (By the way do any of you konw how to change dates on the community calendar?)

In any event, I am off from BOTH of my jobs the last week of August so I will definately be able to cleanse in peace with all the necessary stuff that I would need. Man sometimes I wish I had never set a date because I have this karma where the stuff "hits the fan" and all that I planned is messed up. Very frustrating.

Problems that you ask? Yes, I have had problem when preparing for the July date. One is, I have been trying to contact the herb supplier (by phone and e-mail) and I have not been able to speak with him to order and have had no return e-mail correspondance so I am bit concerned about that. Second, the preferred board provider only has ONE board to offer now. But I planned to purchase that this week anyway so that is truly no big deal. Its the herbs that are the problem.

LAST, I am buying a house and I have another job. I am just realizing I never mentioned this in my intro post. But yes I am a gymnastics coach three days a week with a competitive team so taht is like 12 hours of extra work a week with pre-adolesents. Some days I want to bang my head up against the wall and others I am on cloud nine. Overally I really like working with my kids.

Some days I get this strange feeling that I over-extend myself WAAAAY TOO MUCH. I am really starting to feel it so somthing will have to give soon. Cause I would hate to crash and burn ... again.

But funny enough I have JUST ENOUGH energy to make it at this point and hopefully through to the end of the summer:)

If you have any suggestios about reaching the herb guy and changing dates on the community calendar please let me know! :)

Hope you all have been festive and wonderful!

Thanks again for the birthday wishes!

Until next time....

Courtney

Hi Courtney-
I just read through your intro thread.

Wow! Your body has been through it. But the great thing is that the body is so amazing and if you give it a chance it can heal itself.

I hope you are in good enough shape soon to take on your first cleanse.

I had some nasty rash when I started my Level 1 and that cleanse really helped it a lot! Then I did Level 2 and it's pretty much history!!

BTW: Did you get a hold of the herb guy? In case you haven't, as you probably know he's on the west coast and they're 3 hours behind us. When I've spoken to him, he told me the later the better. So I would try him anywhere from 6pm our time on. I think he mostly works at night. I've called him at 9 and he's there.

Hope this helps.

Peace,
Laura

It's good to see you back. Don't worry about adjusting your dates - it has to fit for you. It does sound as though you've got an awful lot of things going on! So easy to get in over our heads in this world we live in - as I get older, my best motto is "Simplify!"

About the calendar - I couldn't figure out how to change or delete an event either. But you could add your new dates in and call them "REVISED" or something like that. Maybe someone else knows how to edit entries.

Cheers!

Hi Courtney-

I'm curious, did you get a juicer yet? If not, I wanted to let you know that health food stores generally sell them. So, if you didn't want to order online that' another option. :)

BTW: When are you buying and moving into this new house? Aren't you currently with your parents. Once you move, you'll be able to cleanse ALL BY YOURSELF. A good thing if people you live with now aren't supportive.

Peace,
Laura

Hi Everyone! :)

Thanks for the feeback.

To answer Laura's questions and comments first:

Did you get a hold of the herb guy? Yes I did. And NO I did not know he was on the WEST COAST!! That explains alot. Thanks for that tip. Yes, I think that my body is in good shape for me to function as of now... the herbalist stuff is working well. I see her in a couple of weeks and she will reassess me then. I will keep you all posted.

Juicer: Yes I did notice at the health food stores near my home that they had the juicers. They are very expensive so to purchase everything I have to do it in parts and pieces I guess you can say BECAUSE of the new house that I purchasing I cannot be zealous with my funds. When shall it be purchased... well I would like to rehab a home in Balitmore City so I submitted my bid to the city the other day. I will not find out if I am awarded a house until... I think another three weeks. So if I get it... everything will not start until the earliest September.

I am thinking if I buy a condo instead, the wonderful time for me to cleanse in my own space would be better and much sooner than rehabing a home. And just think the bathroom (for me) would be bigger (my parents home is big with small bathrooms). I would hate to cleanse in my room (which is SOOO not an appealing thought right now).

ANNA!!!!! Hey girl :). Okay..... yes I am WAYYY over my head right now. Getting up at 5 everyday is not fun.. but I am young so I force myself out of the bed. And I can honeslty say I am afraid to admit that I need to SIMPLIFY. When I do settle on a date that I am comfy with I will put REVISED as you suggest.

finally, KIM.... Thanks so much for the well wish. I think that you will do just fine in your cleansing process. If we are cleansing at the same time we will defiantely have much to share.

Thanks again for all of the positive love and responses!

Peace and happiness....

Courtney

re the herbalist, since she's and nearly all herbalists are not familiar with this type of cleansing they will hesitate and or dissuade you to cleanse, mine did. but i just looked by it trusting jos-hua and his vast experience and my own knowledge gained from the research i've done.

as i read over your post i see that she is completely unfamiliar with cleansing since eating while cleansing will completely defeat the purpose ....though i'm not as a familiar with your organ's conditions just know that this cleanse will give them an incredible long awaited rest and the opportunity to be cleaned, healed and nourished like they haven't been since you were a child....

i hope other more experience fasters will advise....

but i do like and think it's extremely important that you will have no work to mess with while you are cleansing, so the wait until august just might be the best....to have peace, the flexibility of a free schedule, the chance to rest, as you will see later are of the greatest importance during a cleanse.

good luck to you, i really look forward to seeing you around and progressing with you:)
