View Full Version : Do you know squat?

Squatting is the most natural way to answer nature's call. How many of you squat?
Here's an excerpt from http://www.hps-online.com/hsquat.htm :
Take a look at nature and you will see that all animals squat to defecate.
Even our closest ancestors, the primates, squat down with their knees drawn up to their chests when 'nature calls'.
What you may not realize, however, is that even today most human beings still defecate in this natural manner, especially in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
It is only in the industrial West, where the modern toilet was invented that people 'sit down' to defecate just as they sit down to eat...and instead of immediately doing what they came there for - to evacuate -, people engage in reading, writing, and other worldly activities.

I tried squatting early on and found it much too uncomfortable. I think with the weight loss and with my exercise it has become much easier. Where I used to squat maybe once in 5 or 7 craps, I find myself squating 5 out of 6 times now.

ah, what a nice way to renew a relationship with an old cleansing friend... on the toilette!
:D
How are you David? I hope well, and happiness. Looking forward to a post-cleansing update so we can talk more there... didn't want to miss the chance here to say hello.

I always squat when in public restrooms, :D
I was putting my feet up on a package of toilet paper, that is, until it was all gone!
But I can't seem to figure out how to do it right, so now that I've finished the cleanse, I want to figure out how to make something that will work for me, before I injure myself!

When I lived in Kenya, our toilet was cemented so we had to climb up a step and squat. I miss that because that is the natural way to bowel eliminate. Also, my mother used to prop me up on a public toilet seat and others were the opposite from the above because they were not hygienic from that habit I cannot sit on anyone's toilet seat than the one at home. I read in a health book that to get back the use the ancient squatting technique put you feer on a stool and then sit down on the toilet seat

And there are some products mentioned on the HPS site to help you with that too.

Yes,
I meet squat a few years ago.
I built two small blocks that I swing out in front of the toilet and put my legs on. If any of you would like to order some just send me an email and I will build you a custom set for your deficating pleasure.

Now that's a generous offer Thomas. Thanks!
:-)
I hope our cleansing friends take it up... squatting is the way to go, especially once you start out on this cleansing path... any other posture just doesn't make sense, especially since we are doing it daily, sometimes twice daily, forever, every day, for the rest of our life. There are so many numerous benefits that squatting way outways every other alternative... more than half the worlds population squat, it's just a few people in North America and Europe that have taken up a different posture, which has, btw, been detrimental to their health.
Anyway, nice to see the offer, you made my day, thanks THomas.
Peace

I might have to take you up on that offer Thomas.
I recently tried the squat and was pleasantly surprised at the outcome
(no pun intended).
Rather than getting up on the toilet, raising the feet seems like a good idea.
But, then again, I'm new and I don't know squat. :)
This whole thread has given a new meaning to "squatters rights"

Rick

The only way "to go" as far as I'm concerned. I have simply found a comfortable way to balance on the std western toilet so I've never looked into the blocks or other devices to raise the legs instead. In any event, whatever it takes to achieve correct geometry - just do it!! :) The benefits are enormous.

Hi there,
I tried squatting when I was doing my formal for the first time. Not good because it was the after-blast and made quite a mess of toilet. I was surprised that I could actually get up on the toilet rim. I am going to try again when I have finished my formal. Apart from the after-blast two days at the start, I haven't had an in-between evacuation.
Love and Blessings,
June

How do you people squat without falling off of the toilet, causing a slight head injury and making a big ruckus in the loo?!?

Judy,
After reading this thread this morning, I tried the block/chair idea that was suggested and it works well...with no need for balancing.
All I did was bring a folding chair into the bathroom and place it as close to the front of the toilet as possible. Then, I sat on the toilet, put my feet up on the chair as close to the toilet as possible (knees bent and as close to your chest/shoulders as possible). I had a BM within a couple seconds.
When I try balancing directly on the toilet, I clench my butt in order to stay balanced. I try not to, but it just automatically happens. The chair method allows you to relax a little more, and stuff just comes out easier.
Hopes this helps.

Hi all,
In Japan I squatted all the time (the toilets are made for it) and for years thought that If I ever built my own house, I would definately put that kind of toilet in it.
Been years since I was in Japan, and a long while since I last read T.H.S.& L.
so I hadn't thought about it much 'till I joined this group. However, whenever I would have a hard time 'going' I would always grab my toddlers foot stool and prop my feet up without even thinking about it... Guess the info. and experience in Japan stayed with me.

Judy dearest, yes that is a good question... like anything new there is the inherent risk of falling off and making a mess of oneself... especially with squatting as it requires some muscle tone, ligament toning, relaxation (consiously), coordination and daring (at least the first few times! )
But the bottom line is squatting makes the whole shitting experience quicker, easier, cleaner and makes one feel lighter as more feces are evacuated this way than any other way of defecating.
There are proops that one can buy ( i think the hemorroid section of HPS-ONLINE website has reference to it, can't remember, it is so long since i edited that section) but also here at our group, I remember someone offering to sell them or make them... do a search, i'm sure you'll find it here somewhere.
After a while, once one gets the hang of it, and the muscles and ligaments stretch a bit (doing some exercises to stretch the leg ligaments might be a good idea too, as a kind of supplement), then squatting is the way to go... i squat on every toilet, anywhere in the world, i lift the seat and just place my legs on the bowel, and find a wall or shelf nearby if i need some support for coordination.
I'd suggest you get the apparatus mentioned above, it is worth the investment. Definitely worth it. :D :D :D

Hi there
Well I have just read this section in Daniel Reid’s book and what a difference! I didn’t think it would be that different but it is, subtle but definitely better. At home I am able to do this (i hold onto my sink) and so over the weekend have been squatting and had no problems extracting. However I am not confident to try this at work or in other public toilets yet and I felt the difference a short while ago. There was definitely more of a strain than when squatting. The more I practice I'm sure the easier it will become.
Hope by now you’re a pro!
